Hi Sylvia,
Apache Cordova is an open-source mobile development framework that allows developers to build cross-platform mobile apps with a unique code base. You can develop a Cordova app using web technologies, such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. PhoneGap is an Adobe product which is powered by Apache Cordova.
Ionic is a framework which is a set of CSS classes and a JavaScript library, build on top of Cordova with AngularJS.
If you're interested in a Cordova development, you can check the Telerik Platform end-to-end solution which basically supports 2 types of cross-platform mobile developement:
Let me know if you require any further information on that topic.

- hybrid - powered by Cordova
- native - powered by NativeScript. NativeScript is an open source platform for building cross-platform native mobile apps. NativeScript accesses the native APIs directly, rather than loading content in a WebView while still allowing you to develop one common set of code in JavaScript, TypeScript and XML-type of markup. It also supports Angular 2.0.
I would recommend examining the Hybrid or NativeScript—Choosing the Path for You tutorial for more information on those options as well as running our GettingStarted tutorials for some hands-on experience.

Visit the Telerik Verified Plugins Marketplace and get the custom Cordova plugin you need, already tweaked to work seamlessly with AppBuilder.

Hi, seems like Preslav has provided a great answer. Just wanted to share this small infographic with you. If you'd like to see samples of apps built with PhoneGap or if you'd like to know how much PhoneGap developers earn in different countries, take a look at this post.
