Unable to Record actions in a modal popup

Hi,
           I am testing a web application and there comes a point, where i have to click a icon, which navigates me to a popup, at this point, i have 2 popups open, 1 which is a regular HTML popup with blank content (plain white screen is displayed), and another popup which is a modal popup.

Telerik connects itself with the initial home browser and records all actions on it, upon navigation it also connects to the new HTML popup (the teleric toolbar is displayed on top) , but with regards to the modal popup, Telerik is unable to connect to and no action on this modal popup is recorded.

Unfortunately due to company policy im unable to provide you with a screen shot or video.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Akhil,

Since this is a recording issue we need to reproduce it locally or we need to have an access to your application, so we can give you a solution.

A Jing video demonstrating the issue may also help us to better understand what is happening.

An approach you can try is to attach to existing instance. Open the modal dialog, click the drop-down arrow on the Record button to see a list of available browser instances and select the modal dialog. Test Studio should connect to it.

Hi Boyan,
           I really appreciate your swift reply. I have tried trying to connect telerik to the modal popup by the down arrow below record button, but telerik is not recognizing the modal popup. The only browsers displayed in the dropdown are the home browser and the HTML blank new window.

Another question i had, can i use Fiddler to translate actions on the modal popup into a test case in Telerik test studio??
I tried renaming the fiddler files with "tstest" extension, but that didnt work. It doenst display it as a test case under my project.

Also, i can try sending screen shots of the problem to you. Is there a secure way i can send it across?

     I have been able to get a few screen shots with details mentioned in it about the reproduce problem with telerik. Would appreciate insight into the problem. Its a ppt and im unable to attach it here. Please provide an alternative to send it across

User Credentials are input here and navigates to the home screen. This screen is recognized by Telerik

Screen Shot 2:
This screen is recognized by Telerik as well. Once in this home screen, I click the “Central HR”  button (bordered in green below)  and this navigates me to a new window

Screen Shot 3:
The click on the previous screen opens 2 popups (new windows), one is a basic HTML new window (blank with no data) shown below on the left and a Modal popup (with all further functionalities) shown  below on the right. This modal popup is not recognized by telerik and  does not record any action on this modal popup. A majority of our testing has to be performed on this modal popup

Correct me if im wrong, it is my understanding that modal popup recording is in built with Telerik Test studio.

Please excuse me for my delayed response. 

Let me please correct Swapnil, you don't need to install any kinds of plugins.

What kind of pop up is this? Is it an HMTL one or something else?

If you haven't done so already, please calibrate your browser as seen in this article.

Since this is a recording issue we'll need to reproduce the issue locally in order to investigate what is happening. Please provide us with a copy of your test and access to your application. If it is not possible to grant us access to your application, please take a Fiddler trace using FiddlerCap and send it to us in a zip file.

Hi Boyan,
       There are 2 popups that open up, 1 is a HTML new window and another a modal popup with all the functionalities (this is not recognized by Telerik). I have mentioned in more detail above.

I have recorded in fiddler, the flow starting from logon --> Click Navigation icon --> Opening of 2 popups

Hello Akhil,

Thank you for providing the Fiddler trace.

Since this window is not an instance of IE it seems that this is expected behavior. Windows is not recognizing it as a separate instance of Internet Explorer.

Test Studio can connect to every instance of Internet Explorer. Please consult this with your developers whether it can be opened in an independent IE.

Hi Boyan, could you please remove the above video from this post, as this is company sensitive material. Also, is there a way we can get telerik to recognize this new instance? (modal popup). Also, can we use any tool like fiddler is to visual stduio , to import the workflow as a test case in telerik

Unfortunately I could not find a workaround for the issue. I logged a bug report on this, which you can track on our public feedback portal. 

I discussed this with our developers and they will debug it in a very short period of time.

Hi Akhil,

We have tried the link in a several networks outside Telerik and it worked perfectly. 

Please try to open it in a different browser or on a different machine.

You could try to temporary disable any firewall and antivirus software on your computer, to see if this helps. 

If the issue persists please consult this with your network admins. The possible reason might be network permissions/restrictions.

   I am still unable to record on the modal popup. I installed the custom build Telerik version, but it still isnt connecting to the modal popup while recording. Could you please advise?

Hello Akhil,

As you can see in this video the recording toolbar is showing only on the blank window, however you can record actions against the other pop up also.

Hi Boyan,
    The execution you have recorded is as we wish it to be, but when the navigation icon is clicked, the URL for the blank HTML popup is dynamic, in the
start it is "https://www.ceridianhre.com/HRNetFormsAuth32/default.aspx?on=MANDSSYSTEMTEST" and after the modal popup loads the URL changes to
"https://hre.ceridianhre.com/MANDSSYSTEMTEST/default.aspx" . In your recording the step connects to the final URL and records the modal popup actions.
But when i record, it connects to the first URL and doesnt change and connect to the final URL. And does not connect to the modal popup.

Could you please talk to your developers and inquire if there is a workaround for this.

Hello Akhil,

Changing of the URL does not interrupt the connection to the second modal pop up. You should wait a few seconds so Test Studio can connect to it.

If the issue persists please record a Jing video demonstrating the entire process, so we can better understand what is happening.

    The custom build download link you provided, is it for only 1 person to download? Because i feel that though i have downloaded and installed from the
link, the setup prompts me to either Change, Repair or Delete telerik. While my colleague was prompted with "Would you like to Upgrade" setup.

It is not only for 1 person. It should prompt you with "Would you like to upgrade".

Please make sure you have installed the custom build I've sent to you.
