RDL/RDLC format differs a lot from the Telerik reports. Telerik report is divided into sections from different types and every section type has its specific meaning. In the opposite the RDL format doesn't define such sections but uses other data aware elements - List, Table, etc.
At the moment these differences plus other pending issues prevent us from specifying a precise release date or a version.
Please excuse us for the temporary inconvenience and thank you for the understanding.

Looking like I'm going to have to re-create all our reports again from scratch :(

Currently we cannot provide a time frame for this feature. Thank you for the understanding.

Hi,
Any news on the convert from RDL to Telerik Reporting format?
sincerely,

We're working on other highly demanded features and in this light we cannot engage with estimate as to when we're going to work on this functionality.

Hi,
Any news on the convert from RDLC to Telerik Reporting format now? If yes can you provide download link for the same.
sincerely,
Kanhaiya Verma

Thanks,

This task is still with low priority. However both reporting products are very close and we encourage you to try to create a converter of your own and if you experience troubles we are always ready to help.

I'd like assistance creating an RDL converter. I have hundreds of reports, and I need to be able to successfully convert them. All conversation below indicates that several Telerik users have the same need. Is there any update on when this converter will be released?
If not, can you offer assistance to us in creating our own? Possibly indicate a mapping of where RDL components would go into Telerik.
Thanks,
Tony
As my colleague mentioned SSRS converter is not in our immediate plans. You can use the product source code available in your account to see how we've implemented the rest of the converters and match the SSRS components in similar fashion to our Reporting API.

Q2’11 SP1 of Telerik Reporting is available for download (see what's new). Get it today.

An SSRS to Terik converter would be an enabler for use to convert to Telerik.
We started using SSRS (RDL) as "it came with our SQL license" but have hit limitations. Now our inhibitor to migration to Telerik is the investment we have in our current reports developed using SSRS.

We've already pointed out that converter for SSRS is not in our immediate plans.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

As suggested earlier in this thread, you can write your own converter. I tackled this by writing a class that pulled all of the necessary properties from the SSRS RDLs. Then, using these properties, created a Telerik report. It took a while, but it's better than waiting. In my opinion, the Telerik reports are worth the effort.

Thats great that you were able to come with a solution for SSRS RDLs converter and I am really interested to look at your solution. Can you make a sourceforge project so I and other guys can look at it, use it and improve it.
Thanks

A converter for RDL/RDLC would be very nice. Reporting Services client reporting has a very nasty bug that leaks memory and converts it impractical for professional applications. Last year I changed from Crystal Reports to Reporting Services but this month discovered this defect that Microsoft doesn't plan to fix even for the 2012 release. So client report processing with Microsoft is not a valid solution if you don't want to constantly restart services, web applications and clientes when an out of memory exception occurs. It would be a commercial oportunity for you if provide an automatic converter at least for the basic funcionality/layout.
Thanks.

Tony, if you're willing to share your work, perhaps CodePlex would be a good place to host it?
Thank you very much for your persistence on the subject.
We are researching the possibility to provide a SSRS --> Telerik Reporting converter, and your input will help us back up this investment.
DISCLAIMER: This is a research project. By no means we are dedicated to create such a converter at this point of time, although your input will help us understand your needs better.
We would like to hear about the limitations and/or problems you have hit with Reporting Services, which are pushing you to move away from this reporting platform. If you lack some features, which are available in Telerik Reporting and are not available in SSRS, we would like to hear about them too. The more we understand your needs, the easier the decision to create such a converter, and the better solution we would be able to provide if we decide to go with this project.
Any input will be beneficial. Thanks in advance.

BLOGGERS WANTED! Write a review about Telerik Reporting or the new Report Designer, post it on your blog and get a complimentary license for Telerik Reporting. We’ll even promote your blog and help bring you a few fresh readers. Yes, it’s that simple. And it’s free. Get started today >

we're also using Microsoft Reporting Services Report Server (SSRS) for over hundred reports.
Would be great thing to use Telerik Reporting Viewer to either show Telerik Reports or existing a Report from our Servers.
If you need any beta testers, let me know.
Kind regards, Otto.

The projects have already passed by hands of many developers some more , others less talented, so there is already a mix of reports from rdl to rdlc and there are many chalenges right now to address in such a configuration.
- there is a need for code refactoring and redo methods that are uniform to all reports, this is dificult being some provided by srss and others rdlc that live in the project. (If telerik had a converter at least this could mean for just one type of reports)
- there is a need for the reports to be multi language, some of this reports are "hard/coded" in some language, all have to be addressed one by one, (if converted this could mean one place to change!)
- there is an aditional overload of time consumiing with report servers needing to be implemented/configured on new clients every time there is new instalations( with telerik reports this coul mean only report sources from databases!)
-there are many other challenges to be addressed, but one other is: Why having a subscription from Telerik iof all this great products from TELERIK, including Reports if i dont use them, why would i use them if it weren´t for the need?
SO I THINK THAT YOU GUYS SHOULD TAKE THIS SERIOUS!

I need to get permission to release it or re-create it on my own time as an opensource project.
It only took about 1 week to create so it would be quite simple to role your own.
- Crawl the RDL XML
- Create a Telerik Report programmatically from the XML markup. (Teaches you allot about the Telerik Reporting Framework)
- Serialize the Report object to {ReportName}.cs and {ReportName}.desinger.cs (This was the fun part)
- Open new Report in Telerik and manually fix DataSources and Expressions

Just for fun, 10 webinar attendees will be randomly selected to win a Telerik T-shirt and a $50 Gift Certificate to ThinkGeek. Register now! Seats are limited!

here´s a great opportunity for you and this could mean a lot for the community, as Telerik is willing to assist, this is what it takes for me at least to start trying and testing asap this kind of solution.
I hope that you have time and can assist on this project as i think this could mean a lot for many developers that actively use Telerik products.
Hope to hear on this soon....
PS: If any kind of help is needed i am willing to try, although i do not have the free time that i would like to have!

Shall you post an example project as I have the same problem (converting rdlc to Telerik report)
Thank you in advance

The RDL Xml to Telerik object is quite simple and I'm using reflection to write the content out to the report.cs and report.designer.cs files, but would like to utilize Telerik's existing CodeDom to do this.
Telerik,
Do I need to be a visual studio extension in order to invoke the CodeDom?
I can utilize the XmlSerialization, but that only seems best for your stand alone Reporting tool and not as a long term for integrating the report into existing projects.
I don't get allot of time to work on this project but perhaps I'll just toughen up and drop a dedicated weekend on to it.
Thanks
Steven Moberg
Thank you for your feedback.
The task you have started is not that simple, but after you can utilize the Standalone Designer, you can use the same functionality as if provided by Visual Studio designer. By using our ReportXmlSerializer the created reports can be integrated in custom applications.

Stef

Have you tried the new visualization options in Telerik Reporting Q1 2013? You can get them from your account.

Thanks

Steven,
This issue has come up for a client I'm pitching for some work with and I'd be keen to stand on your shoulders and contribute to progressing the work you've already put in. It all sounds great, but did you ever get permission to externalise your work?
Currently the client uses PerpetuumSoft, but I'm pitching to standardise them on the Telerik suite - they already use the Silverlight controlsuite, but not the reporting capabilities. They've got a few dozen fairly vanilla SSRS reports.

Justin

Thanks,

could you please provide me sample code to convert my ssrs files to telerik?
Thanks,
James

Do you have samples on how to convert ssrs files into telerik reports? I would greatly appreciate you pointing me in the right direction because I have several that need to be converted.
thanks,
James
Telerik Reporting does not provide converter from SSRS reports due to the significant differences in report structures. You will have to re-create the existing reports with the available Report Designers.
Feel free to open a support ticket if you need help with re-creating the reports.

Hi Steve,
Can you please let me know if this conversion is now released?
Thanks, William

Have anyone create a conversion program from .rdlc to trdx successfully?
Thanks,
James

To get our business we need to convert all the reports we have.
we would love to use yours if it just had a converter. SSRS to Telerik.

SSRS and Telerik reports differ in structure and used processing logic. Thus inter-converting them is not a clear task. Feel free to log a feature request and describe an exact list of features that are of interest for you to be converted - Feedback portal. Features logged in our feedback portal are reviewed by product managers, and further discussed on technical level.
For the time being, I can suggest you to keep the existing SSRS reports and continue the further development of reports with Telerik Reporting. Thus even if an old SSRS report has to be displayed in a Telerik viewer, you will not have to handle all reports at once, but only the needed ones.
Other approaches will be to export SSRS reports in PDF or other format and just return the file to the client, or get the SSRS report's in browser as HTML and test Telerik HTML processing libraries (ClientExportManager).
I hope this information is helpful.

Stef

I know our enterprise could completely switch to Telerik reports if they had built-in ssrs converter’s.
Money just waiting.
Hi Logan,
I recommend voting for the feature request in our Feedback portal- Convert reporting services report to Telerik Reporting. Note that the number of votes is one of the most important aspects based on which we prioritize and implement the new features.

Progress Telerik

I guess requesting a feature from Telerik for more than 12 years does not constitute a need.

Agreed
We moved to syncfusion because they offer a report view for rdlc and rdl with ssrs 2017 +. They also have steps to get the report viewer working with blazor and dotnet core.
Food for thought :)

14 years WOW WOW
already have the functionality to support RDL?
Hello Tegett,
We realize the value of such a converter and understand how helpful would be, however, there are some limitations that are stopping us from starting its development. One of the problems is that we need a license to create the converter. On the other hand, there are other features that are of higher priority and for that reason, this one is not in our current plans.I am really sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please, let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
